A buffered acid remover for efflorescence, calcium, calcium carbonate and hard water stains, made as a replacement for muriatic acid.

F9 Efflorescence Remover is sold to professional contractors only. Front 9 calls it F9 Calcium and Efflorescence Remover, and says it is a user friendly replacement for full 31.45% strength muriatic acid. Front 9 says it combines a buffered acid with soaping capability, so it works better at lower concentrations while greatly reducing fuming and corrosion, and that it is a safer alternative to traditional HCL acid-based cleaners.

Key Features

  • Fewer fumes: Front 9 says it has up to 95% less fumes than full strength HCL acid.
  • Versus muriatic acid: Front 9 says it works better than full strength muriatic acid, with less harmful effects.
  • Skin: Front 9 says it does not burn intact skin.
  • Removes stains quickly: efflorescence, calcium, calcium carbonate and hard water stains.

Ideal For

  • Calcium carbonate and calcium
  • Mineral stains and etch marks
  • Efflorescence
  • Copper stains
  • Mud and red clay stains

Uses

On concrete and masonry, use it to clean efflorescence and calcium. At stronger concentrations, you can use it to etch concrete in preparation for painting or coatings. At diluted ratios, use it as a general cleaner. It also removes excess mortar from brick and mud stains.

How to Mix

Always add acid to water, not water to acid. These are Front 9's dilution ratios, water to product, for concrete, brick, paver, grout and masonry:

Cleaning task Water to product
Thick calcium stains and concrete prep for coatings 1:1 up to 4:1
Medium calcium stains 4:1 up to 8:1
Light calcium stains 8:1 to 12:1
Powdery efflorescence cleaning 12:1
General cleaning 8:1

How to Use

F9 Efflo can etch masonry. Always test first. These are Front 9's instructions for concrete, brick, paver, grout and masonry.

Pre-cleaning: if necessary, power wash the surface first, using a commercial grade pressure washer, degreaser and surface cleaner to remove oil and debris. An alkaline concrete cleaner may be used. Rinse well. Cleaning the concrete first removes loose dirt and debris, clearing the path for better cleaning.

  1. Add 1 part F9 Efflorescence Remover to the proper ratio of water. Always pour cold water into the bucket first, then add the product. Always test first to confirm compatibility and desired strength.
  2. Mist the surface with water so it is damp, but not puddling.
  3. Spray the product on the surface using a pump-up sprayer, a hand held sprayer or the F9 Hand Carry Electric Sprayer. The surface should foam immediately. Let it dwell 20 seconds to 3 minutes. Do not let the product dry.
  4. Scrub the surface as necessary with a hard bristled brush or broom. Let it dwell another 1 to 15 minutes. Neutralize the surface. Power wash with a fan tip or surface cleaner if needed. Do not let the product dry.
  5. Analyze the results, repeat the application if needed, and adjust the dilution for the results you want.
  6. Several mild individual applications are better than one overpowering dose. Always pressure wash and flush the surface after application.

Coverage

Front 9 says one gallon covers 200 to 400 sq ft of porous masonry, and up to 1,200 sq ft of sealed or non-porous masonry. Application rates vary with the amount of staining, the porosity of the surface and whether it was sealed.

Surfaces

Suitable: concrete, bricks, pavers, limestone, sandstone, riverstone, exposed aggregate, stucco, shingles, EIFS, glass, synthetic stone, anodized aluminum, unpolished marble and other surfaces.

Not suitable: it may not be suitable for polished or glazed surfaces. Do not use it on metallic or other synthetic coatings or films, or on acrylic and polycarbonate sheet glazing. Always test a small area first to confirm compatibility.

Safety

For professional contractor use only. Please use proper PPE when using this product. Always add acid to water, not water to acid.

Please read the instructions thoroughly and view the training videos supplied by Front9 Restoration's YouTube Channel.

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use: Front 9 Efflorescence Remover SDS.

Shelf Life

Front 9 says that unopened, F9 Efflorescence Remover lasts about 2 years. Once it is opened, cut that number in half, approximately.
